Chime Curtains, Flagler College, 2016
Chime Curtain was installed November 1-4, 2016 in the Palm Garden on the campus of Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL, as part of the SOUND exhibition, which was on exhibit at the Crisp Ellert Museum, September 2 - November 22, 2016.
Unlike my sound work that regularly uses a combination of found and predetermined sounds processed to construct a social or political narrative, Chime Curtain is an attempt to force the viewer/listener to see/hear their environment in a new way by introducing sound that is both activated and exclusive to the environment in which it exists.
Chime Curtain is a piece that is driven by the desire to introduce materiality and making into my regular art practice. It is also driven by the simple desire to experience what being surrounded by 85+ wind chimes sounds like.
