Notes from the Mountaintop, 2010
This video isone of several "informational" videos included in the multi-media collaborative installation, Raising Two White Boys in the South. It has also been presented as a stand alone video.
The video is based on the not-so-well-known event of the stabbing of Dr. Martin Luther King on September 20, 1958. (The Headline is from the New York Times, September 21, 1958, pg.1) The event was referenced within King's "Mountaintop" speech as he reads a letter that was written to him by a young girl after the stabbing 10 years earlier.
In this video, the text of the letter was modified to reflect the age and gender of the reader, my son, Carver, and the audio is of my son, who at the time, was learning to read.
