Painting with spices is both visually and aromatically engaging. To create designs, I shake herbs and spices through a series of handmade stencils onto sheets of acrylic glass. Seasonings used include alfalfa, beet root, cayenne, chili, cinnamon, curry, onion, orange peel, oregano, paprika, parsley, pepper, rosemary, salt, and turmeric. - Stephen Watson Creative use of materials, engaging and accessible are words I would use to describe the work of Stephen Watson. The aroma is inviting and the concept is simple, which stimulates the viewer to ask, “How, why?”. Once the viewer is hooked and engaged with this work, the dialogue about labor, nature, spirituality and permanence begins. - Michael Dickins, Gallery Director |
